Identity Theft
Identity theft is one of the fastest growing criminal
activities throughout the world, and it can affect
anyone. An individual's personal details, whether
it be a social security number, bank account number, credit
card details or whatever, can be used by the criminal element
in society to open new accounts, borrow money, make substantial
purchases, all in someone else's name, and thereby, to assume
their identity. It is easier for them to do than you can
imagine.
Once that has occurred, it can take the injured party many
months, if not years, to take back control of their financial
position and their credit rating.
You need to be very careful in disposing of any
documentation that has any of your personal details on it. Even
junk mail that arrives in the post with your name and address
pre-entered on an application form should be disposed of in a
disciplined manner.
DO NOT, EVER, just throw out unwanted
financial documents with the weekly garbage. Far better to burn
it or use an
inexpensive paper shredder to break it down. A little inconvenience
now is going to be preferable to the long time it can take
you to re-assume control of your own identity, once it has
been stolen from you. Ignore this warning at your
peril.
Paper shredders can be delivered quickly, and easily, to your
door.
